So I gave Tumblr another year. If you haven’t read my previous retrospective you probably should. But yes…have my opinions of the website changed this time???

Old man ranting and sentimentality ahead.

Okay, I lied. my first post was actually on April the 10th, and it was in regards to a bunch of grudges people held against a group of friends and I. As I’ve said before, those grudges are why I decided to move to Tumblr in the first place; to keep an eye on them.

Rappy McRapperson puts it nicely: “If you’ve got a problem, time will solve it.“ I’m pretty sure everyone who previously had a grudge with me has dropped it by now, because at this point it’s pretty petty to still hold one after two years. And that’s good. I’ve even made up with most of my old friends.

The point is that Tumblr’s community is still as cancerous as ever and an extra year hasn’t helped my view of it. “oMG I CANT BREATGH” and dumb one line text posts and reblog chains that get thousands of notes and people that stack extremely long photos on top of eachother in photosets and gifsets of what should be videos and the constant stream of shitty fanbases like Pokemon and Animal Crossing and Danganronpa and….. whatever!

It’s all still repulsive and no amount of tag filtering can help. And yes, 4chan’s pretty bad too, but at least they can be funny sometimes.

It pains me to see great artwork, videos and concepts that people create get a modest amount of notes but a post about “trying to think of a good text post idea” can garner 10000+. (meta shit, right there.)

But I guess that’s a testament to how quickly things can spread, which is one of the redeeming factors of tumblr (and Web 2.0 in general). I already explained how good this is in my previous retrospective, so yeah. In that respect, I thank tumblr for helping my artwork get out there.

(tangent here: Ponpon and Slam still has the most notes (which sucks), but my posts about Little Witch Academia and Knuckles’ “Oh no” soundbite are catching up; and lemme tell you right now, they damn well deserve it.)

I guess I should use the rest of this space to drop a couple of names that have been pretty significant to me this year on tumblr:

Princey - for being my first follower and still being alive after all this time.
Bri - Good to see you again.
Elf - You too son. Keep the flame alive.
Ruri - As to you. Your sprites are great.
Marcos - We’ve stuck together through thick and thin.
Toast/Carbo - I congratulate you both on your successes in many respects. And I thank that pesky anon for keeping us glued together, for better or for worse.
Mettic - the many screenshots you’ve dumped have never ceased to amuse me. Also good taste in video games.
Pal - I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!
Kodfish - “Sand! It’s everywhere! Get used to it.”
Frario - Thank you for continually giving me critique.
Ken - Sticking up for creativity in a world where people wanna hear nothing but rants.
